Baking during the holidays can be a great activity to get creative and have fun trying new recipes! Cupcakes are a great item to bring to the many Christmas parties during the holidays. You’ll come to learn that cookies are my number one love in this world, but cupcakes come in a very close second.

A few months ago, I tried my hand at using fondant to make minion cupcakes for a friend’s birthday. Blind and with no experience, I gave it a go. For a first-timer, I thought I really outdid myself with the cupcakes. They looked store-bought that even friends didn’t believe I made them! Little did everyone know, as a newbie to fondant, it took me almost 8 hours to bake, design and assemble these magnificent masterpieces (which my friend loved by the way!). So, I thought I would give baking with fondant another shot – this time with Christmas-themed cupcakes.

I figured it wouldn’t take me as long to make, as I knew more or less what I was doing. The longest part of making fondant toppers was the manual dying of the fondant. Not being very experienced in creating/using fondant, I bought white fondant and decided to dye each colour myself.  I was unaware making red would take me an hour in itself!

I had a great time learning as I went along, and using my imagination to enhance the fondant toppers to be more realistic. Cookie-cutter shapes are a great idea to use, or even finding random items around the house that resemble the shape you need to make something.  I also used baking tools to help shape and cut edges. It was a lot of fun and a great achievement by the end when you see how amazing your hard work looks

A little imagination, patients and love is the reciepe for creating beautiful desserts!
